Vice president of informatics research at Celera Genomics.
As a professor of Computer Science at the University of Arizona,
Dr. Myers developed or co-developed several state-of-the-art bioinformatics
tools, including BLAST.
He was among those who, in 1996, proposed the use of the "whole-genome
shotgun" approach to sequencing the human genome and designed a whole
shotgun assembler which was applied to the sequencing of the Drosophila genome.
